Ian qualified from Queen's University Belfast in 1987 after which he continued his further education by gaining a Diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons, his MFGDP (Member of the Faculty of General Dental Practice) in 1996. Further to that he went on to gain his Diploma in Restorative Dentistry from the University of London in 2007. This Diploma was in the field of Implants, and Ian places and restores all the implants in the practice. Ian started out his dental career as an associate in Downpatrick in 1989 before becoming the practice principal shortly thereafter. He then joined forces with Mark Lindsay in 1993 to start Downe in the Mouth Dental Surgery, and over the last 21 years the practice has grown considerable in size with a loyal patient list. Recently Ian became the sole principal dentist of the practice and continues to bring a high standard of quality dentistry that our patients have grown to expect from an award-winning practice. Ian has been providing orthodontic treatment for around 20 years, and in the last 10 years in particular has grown increasingly convinced of the benefits of non-extraction treatment. In January 2012 Ian began a new course to further his orthodontic skills. This course is a three-year Mini-Residency being given by world-renowned specialist orthodontist Dr. Derek Mahony. Ian has committed to an intense 3 year course, involving a minimum of four 3-day courses each year, regular examinations, case presentations, assignments, and at the end of the course he hopes to gain a further qualification in this field.
