Nick qualified from Bristol Dental School in 2007 and has since practiced general dentistry in various positions in Bristol and Stroud. He also has a BSc and MSc in biological sciences. Nick has always had a keen interest in gum disease (periodontitis) and tries to manage his periodontal patients himself rather than referring to the hygienist to treat. To this end he has just completed a post graduate diploma in periodontics at the Perio School in Harley Street. He believes periodontal patients in general practice can often get stuck in a cycle of repeatedly seeing the hygienist to manage their periodontitis and sometimes this doesn't achieve stability of the condition and it gradually gets worse. They are then referred to a periodontal specialist when it becomes very severe and sometimes too late to successfully manage. Nick now hopes to offer a service in between the general dentist/hygienist and a specialist to treat and manage periodontal patients within the practice and from outside referring dentists with the aim of stabilising the condition before the need for specialist referral/treatment.
