Prof Wright is a Founding Director of the Dental Health Club. He has a personal chair at the University of Salford, awarded for his practice and teaching in Dental Implantology. He lectures nationally and internationally on Dental Implantology and Human Factors. At the Dental Health Club we are at the forefront of research, developing protocols in how to manage and treat diseases that affect the tissues supporting teeth and implants. We are specifically looking at how we can engage patients better, to encourage them to improve home care, and how as a population we can better utilise the specialist expertise of Periodontists. Professor Wright is the Academic lead for the Dental Health Club coordinating this research. Professor Wright is also the Clinical Lead for the portfolio of Dental Postgraduate courses at Salford University and is the Co-Director of the ICE Hospital. He teaches dentists, therapist, hygienists and nurses in all aspects of dental implantology. He has co-authored the text book ‘Standards in Implant Dentistry’ – guidelines for the profession on placing and looking after dental implants. He has co-written the algorithms that have been adopted as the standard protocols for the treatment of Peri-Implant disease. He has established a recognised referral centre for the treatment of both Mucocitis and Peri-Implantitis (gum disease around implants).Prof Wright has a keen interest in surgical performance and has been invited to the participate in the first ‘European Collaboartion About Human Factors and Medicine’ in Paris. He has developed Human Factors as a major research theme at the University of Salford and is the Chairman of The National Advisory Board in Human Factors. He has been awarded an MBE for his contribution to increasing patient safety in Dentistry. Outside dentistry he is a keen sailor, skier and enjoys spending any free time with his children and gorgeous wife.
