Nick qualified from Guy's Dental School in London in 1993. After a Foundation Training year at the Old Oak Dental Practice in Carmarthen, he then work in general practice in London for seven years before taking over the practice in Tycoch in 2001. Frustration and fears of a backward step in quality of treatment with the 2006 NHS contact (since proved correct by a recent review of treatment data), forced Nick to make the practice independent of the NHS, but he now enjoys the freedom of recommending the best treatment for each scenario for each patient. Nick believes that too much time in dentistry is spent fixing things and not preventing them from happening in the first place, so whenever possible, through the use of computer-animated graphics, photographs or videos, he tries to educate patients on how to avoid dental treatment by preventing problems with quick and simple tools and techniques. When not at work, Nick is a passionate traveller and outdoor enthusiast, documenting his experiences through photography, video and sound. This lead to Nick starting his own production company to act as an outlet for his work. When not out on his own adventures, Nick teaches a photography course at the National Botanical Garden of Wales and around Wales through his own Gower Photography website.
