Dr Mariam Shahid Noorani

Mariam is our specialist orthodontist and a qualified Orthodontic Consultant. She treats a full range of regular-complex orthodontic patients with an interest in jaw surgery and missing teeth. She believes no matter how complex patient needs are, with orthodontics, the fine finishing matters, not just an improvement. She offers conventional or self-ligating metal or white braces (including Damon and empower), lingual (on the inside of the teeth) braces, Invisalign and other clear aligners as well as a combination of the above. The type of braces she offers are tailored to individual needs considering the complexity of the case and patient choice. Mariam is invested heavily in her hospital position as an Orthodontic Consultant at one of London’s prestigious teaching Hospitals with not only clinical work and treatment planning but in teaching, training, and management as well. She is currently the Clinical Lead in Orthodontics. Her focus has been on efficiency, bringing in digital technology on the clinic floor as well as using this in surgical planning of her orthognathic (jaw surgery) cases alongside her oral and maxillofacial colleagues. This brings to our practice her clinical expertise in complex and comprehensive treatment planning. Yasir and Mariam have successfully treated a vast number of patients who have suffered trauma, impacted teeth, hypodontia and tooth loss (to name a few) over time. Our practice set up allows the various specialists to work together under one roof to achieve the best possible outcomes. Mariam works with our general dentists and specialists in periodontics (gum disease), endodontics (root canals) as well as implant and restorative dentistry (dental rehabilitation). Education Mariam has 20 years of experience and has previously worked in the various specialties of dentistry including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative, Pediatric and Special Care dentistry. She completed her postgraduate membership exams from the Royal College of Surgeons. Alongside working in practice, she went onto specialize in Orthodontics at Kings College Hospital (3 years full time) where she completed her Masters in Orthodontics with distinction as well as being awarded membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons. She secured further training as an orthodontic consultant at the Royal London and Ipswich hospitals (2 years full time) and was awarded a fellowship in orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons. During this time, she completed a diploma in management and completed her certificate in medical and dental teaching, gaining membership of the health education academy. Later, following further teaching and dissertation, she became a fellow of the Health Education Academy (FHEA). She then joined Kings College Hospital as a substantive consultant and has grown her practice and experience in complex cases. Teaching Mariam teaches and examines for the master’s program in orthodontics. She is part of the formal lecture programmes relating to various disciplines of orthodontics. Her teaching career spans several years from nurses, therapists, undergraduate and postgraduate dental students. With her breadth of experience, Mariam has mentored her dental associates who are keen to develop specialty focused training as well as her specialist trainees who would like to explore their options in practice. Management Mariam co-owns a group of dental practices with Yasir. They both invest together in healthcare with a focus on quality and excellence. To ensure this, they work part time at some of the practices, supporting their associate dentists both chair side as well as through courses and teaching. This allows them to stay closer to their colleagues and patients, ensuring efficient patient focused management. They have trained nurses for the last 15 years in various practices and mentored several colleagues. Extras Mariam is a proud mother of two kind and courteous boys. She takes pride in tutoring her boys academically and encouraging their sporting spirit. She is a regular Zumba enthusiast and enjoys playing squash with the boys. In her own time, she enjoys reading and fabric motif designing. Mariam supports the charity TCF (the citizens foundation) which supports education for underprivileged children.
