Dr. David Shively’s journey into dentistry is one grounded in deep community ties, a lifelong love of learning, and a genuine passion for helping others feel confident in their smiles. Born and raised in Bakersfield, Dr. Shively is proud to call this city home. The son of two dedicated educators—his father, Sherlo, a school principal, and his mother, Ila, a kindergarten teacher—he grew up with a strong sense of purpose, discipline, and compassion. Alongside his two sisters, Karen and Diane, Dr. Shively attended local schools including Horace Mann Elementary, Harding Elementary, Compton Junior High, and East Bakersfield High School. After high school, his path led him to the University of La Verne, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree before heading to San Francisco to pursue his true calling: dentistry. There, at the prestigious University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, he completed his studies and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. With a heart for service and deep roots in the community, Dr. Shively returned to Bakersfield to care for the families he’s grown up alongside. Today, he continues to serve with a steady hand and a friendly smile—offering personalized, high-quality dental care to every patient who walks through his doors.
