Dr Anu Viswanathan

Born in New Delhi, India, Dr. Anu was raised in Mumbai and spent her childhood training in jazz and classical Kathak dance. Her combined interest in art and science led her to dentistry, graduating in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in dental surgery in her native India. Raised in a tradition of philanthropy, Dr. Anu volunteered to help underserved communities and provided free dental treatment in Mumbai while she was working as a full-time private practice general dentist. After nine years of private practice in Mumbai, during which she started and operated her own solo practice for the last six years, Dr. Anu decided to make the move to the United States with her husband and high school sweetheart, Mitul. Mitul’s position as a corporate banker luckily allowed this transition to occur. In the States, Dr. Anu attended The University of Colorado and obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and was awarded for her work in periodontics, oral pathology and special needs care. After Colorado, Dr. Anu moved on to the University of Pittsburgh where she trained in periodontology, earning a master’s degree and becoming proficient in periodontal plastic surgery, esthetic crown lengthening, atraumatic extractions, implant surgeries (including full-mouth rehabilitations), bone regeneration and reconstruction, biopsies, laser surgery and sinus lift procedures. She was also trained fully in intravenous conscious sedation techniques to help patients with dental anxiety. During her residency, Dr. Anu was a finalist in the research poster presentation at the Academy of Osseointegration Annual Meeting and was awarded the Osseointegration Foundation Student Grant in 2023. She was also the student ambassador to the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. Dr. Anu strives to present sound, evidence-based treatment options to her patients and prides herself on honesty, empathy, compassion, and integrity. This has helped her relate to patients throughout her career, building trust and comfort. In her spare time, Dr. Anu and Mitul have traveled extensively and enjoy exploring cultures and cuisines. They enjoy hiking and running, and have even scaled a few 14ers. We are very excited to welcome her into the River Valley family, and are confident that she will be a huge benefit to our patients and referring doctors alike.
