Dr. Kim Van was born in Louisiana, but was raised in Florida since the age of seven. She advanced her dental knowledge base with the aim to practice in the prevention and treatment of oral ailments through education, research, and community service. She began by earning her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida. She then furthered her education at the Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis where she received her Master’s of Science in Biology. Dr. Van then attended the University of Florida, College of Dentistry where she completed her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (D. M. D.) degree. Dr. Van was the head research assistant in Pain Research in the Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Sciences at UF where she examined multiple factors predicting pain trajectory among patients undergoing thoracotomy for suspected lung cancer and patients undergoing oral surgery. During her dental education, she had the opportunity to participate in a mission trip to provide dental treatment to more than 200 patients in rural areas of Jamaica.
