Dr. Douglas Cottingham is originally from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality dental care to every patient he meets. He graduated from Berkeley High School in 1994 and went on to attend Clemson University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1999 and a Master of Professional Accountancy in 2000. He began his career with Arthur Anderson, L.P. in Columbia before relocating to Charleston when his wife, Dr. Sarah Stevenson Cottingham, started medical school. While in Charleston, Dr. Cottingham worked at Pratt-Thomas, Gumb, & Company, a local accounting firm. During this time, he felt drawn to explore other career paths and dentistry—something that had always appealed to him—became the clear choice. After shadowing several dentists in the area, he followed his calling and enrolled in MUSC’s College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Cottingham earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2010, graduating with honors and receiving the Quintessence Award for Achievement in Restorative Dentistry. He has a long history of community involvement, volunteering with organizations such as Give Kids a Smile, the Special Olympics, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. He is a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Education Association. Dr. Cottingham’s wife is a physician at Lexington Medical Center. When they are not caring for patients, they enjoy spending time with their children, Mac and Lila, and their dog, Millie. He is an avid golfer, a music lover, and someone who appreciates every opportunity to get outside and spend time amongst family and friends.
