Dr. Rena Allswang of Dearborn Family Dentistry is a second-generation dentist. Following in her father's footsteps, Dr. Allswang brings her passion for medicine, science, and art to Dearborn Family Dentistry. What she loves most about being a dentist is the connections she's made with patients from the Dearborn, MI, area. I have always loved working with my hands - painting and sculpting- really any sort of artistic creativity. I also have an affinity towards the medical sciences. Dentistry is a perfect blend of artistry and medicine. It brings me so much joy to be able to improve my patients' smiles. The mouth is important in so many aspects of everyday living. Smiling, eating, and talking contribute greatly towards quality of life. I also strive to make every appointment as painless and (dare I say it!) as enjoyable as possible. I grew up in Toronto, Canada where I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Organic Chemistry (yikes!). I got married and had our first son while at University of Toronto. After completing a Bachelor of Science, my husband and I moved to Detroit so I could go to Dental School. We had two more sons before I graduated from University of Detroit Mercy Dental School in 2010. I loved school so much that I decided to attend another year as a resident. Our fourth son was born shortly after I completed my residency. (Yes, I was pregnant throughout all my schooling.) In 2014, we finally did it, and I gave birth to my amazing daughter! Since five kids just wasn't enough for us, we adopted a Morkie Poo (Maltese, Yorkie, Poodle), Mia, in 2023. In my spare time (is that really a thing?) I enjoy doing puzzles (the harder the better), painting, knitting, reading (mostly fantasy) and going on cruises. I also attend continuing education courses, because I can never learn enough and always want to improve. I belong to Alpha Omega, a dental fraternity, the American Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association. I love to do cosmetic dentistry, but really I love all aspects of my profession! I joined Dr Mark and Dr Bruce Luria at Dearborn Family Dentistry in 2016. The quality and comfortableness of care is what attracted me here, and I strive to live up to the legacy that Dr Harold Luria started in 1947. My favorite thing about our office is that we have a good time here! Staff and patients included, we keep the atmosphere fun and comfortable. We are truly a family practice where everyone who comes in the door is part of the family.
