For Dr. Messenger, dentistry provided an opportunity to meld her love of science and her passion for helping people into one career. Dr. Messenger grew up in Rochester, NY, and spent four years studying biochemistry at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she met her husband, Trevor. After graduating from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2010, Dr. Messenger completed a one-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She then served as the Chief Dental Resident at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College. In these residencies, Dr. Messenger gained valuable knowledge and experience in pediatric dentistry, geriatric care, hospital dentistry, and with cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2013, Dr. Messenger and Trevor welcomed their son, Henry, and decided to set roots in Durham, North Carolina to be closer to family. Before purchasing the practice of Dr. Ronald Spain, Dr. Messenger taught at UNC Adams School of Dentistry and worked in private practice. Dr. Messenger is proud to provide patients with conservative care to make an immediate, tangible impact on their health. She relishes getting to know her patients.
