Dr. Edison A. Abril specializes in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, committed to delivering trustworthy, respectful, and ethical care for your teeth, implants, and gums. Dr. Abril graduated from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he earned both a degree in periodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry (Research). During his residency, he served as a clinical instructor at Southern Illinois University, imparting his knowledge and expertise to future dental professionals. His professional journey extends beyond the classroom to international practice. Dr. Abril spent two years in private practice in Bogotá, Colombia, where he also holds a degree in general dentistry. In Northern Virginia, he practiced general dentistry for five years, discovering his passion for periodontics and dedicating himself to focused patient care. With over 13 years of experience, Dr. Abril is proficient in all aspects of non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures. His expertise includes bone grafting around teeth and implants, plastic surgery for gum recession or poor gum quality, and crown lengthening procedures. Dr. Abril collaborates with colleagues on cases such as gummy smiles and canine exposures to enhance patients’ smiles. He is also highly skilled in dental implant surgery, offering state-of-the-art implants that look and function like natural teeth. Lastly, he implements surgical techniques that can streamline the implant process. A process called “tooth-in-a-day”. In addition, Dr. Abril is LANAP® and LAPIP™ certified, utilizing the PerioLase® periodontal laser to treat periodontal disease conservatively. This advanced approach involves no incisions, no stitches, and offers better recovery times, significantly improving the health of teeth and implants with previously poor prognoses. Dedicated to advancing his skills, Dr. Abril has received intensive surgical training in the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Brasil and Hungary. He remains an active Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the Academy of Osseointegration. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Dr. Abril now resides in Aldie, Virginia, with his wife Paola and their daughter Sarah. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he is passionate about improving the quality of his patients’ lives by treating diseases that cause tooth loss and impact overall health.
