Dr Marya Barnes

Dr. Marya Barnes is experienced in all areas of Periodontics, including implants, soft and hard tissue grafting, and laser therapy. We are happy to have her join our staff and know that our referring dentists and patients will appreciate her talent as much as we do. Dr. Barnes received her undergraduate degree at Hampton University, Hampton, VA, with a B.A. in Biological Sciences and her dental degree at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 1998. In 2001, she graduated with her specialty degree in Periodontology from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. After graduating from the University of Alabama Advanced Periodontics program in 2001, Dr. Barnes joined the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. During her tenure with the Air Force, Major Barnes was a Staff Periodontist, a member of the Keesler Forensic Dental Team, and the Dental Officer in charge of Infection Control. In 2004, Dr. Barnes became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Barnes joined the University of Alabama faculty in December 2005, where she served as an adjunct Professor. In 2007, Dr. Barnes and her family moved to Atlanta where she worked independently as a periodontist. On February 14, 2011, Dr. Barnes celebrated the grand opening of her first practice, Atlanta Periodontal Group in Atlanta, GA, where she currently practices. Dr. Barnes is also a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, the North Georgia Dental Society, and the Southern Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Barnes attends seminars and meetings regularly to stay well-informed on new innovations that can be utilized in today's modern periodontal practice. She is dedicated to providing her patients with a gentle, caring, and comprehensive approach to periodontal therapy. Dr. Barnes believes life is about balance, and in her leisure time, she enjoys outdoor activities, cooking, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with her family. Dr. Barnes is the mother of Raphael and Prince.
