Dr. Richard Martin was born in Kingston, Jamaica and migrated to New York at a young age. After completion of high school, he went on to study at the University of Maryland, College Park in Biological Sciences. He then entered New York University Dental School, where he was elected Omicron Kappa Epsilon and graduated with Full Honors in Oral Surgery. Dr. Martin completed his residency at Harlem Hospital, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was appointed chief resident. He then completed a one-year Fellowship at the Oral Surgical Institute in Nashville, Tennessee where he remained in practice until December 2001. Dr. Martin started his solo practice in Lewisville, Texas in March 2002. Dr. Martin has a special interest in surgical instrument design and splint design. During his residency he started designing instruments and for the past 12 years has designed over 20 instruments. Many are used by surgeons around the world. He still continues to work with the same instrument company and has had the #1-selling surgical instrument in the world, the Grasping-Forcep, for the last 4 years. He has now turned his focus towards designing instruments for bone grafting and dental implants.
