Dr. Laura Throm’s love of patient care led her to pursue a second career in dentistry. Born and raised in Michigan, Dr. Throm graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Alma College and a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan. After graduate school, she moved to Chicago and joined the clinical research staff at Northwestern University where she spent 4 years working on traumatic brain injury research with veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Her love of patient care brought her back to school, and she attended the University of Illinois at Chicago to pursue her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. For the first 5 years of her career Dr. Throm practiced family and cosmetic dentistry in Michigan and taught at the dental hygiene school there. In 2019 her husband’s job brought her family to Texas. She has a young daughter and son who are true Texans now. With her background in research, Dr. Throm likes keeping up to date on the dental literature and participating in clinical research whenever possible. She is currently working towards completion of the Frank Spear Mastery Continuum and enjoys combining this comprehensive continuing education with additional continuing education in all areas of patient care.
