After a 12-year failed partnership, I knew I wanted to start a whole new way of practising dentistry. Deep inside, I knew it would be a team effort, and the centerpiece would be creating an exceptional team of men and women who loved the field of dentistry. When I founded the practice 35 years ago, I knew my team would be the most crucial part of Great Lakes Dental Care. I embraced them as family, making them part of the decision-making, hiring, and work innovation. We offered top pay and benefits, promoted from within, and allowed mistakes without repercussions as a learning opportunity. I then invested in the “triple win,” knowing that all decisions based on what’s good for patients and the team would be good for the practice. I vowed never to let profit motivate those decisions.
