Dr. Acela Martinez received her DMD with honors from Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosi and certificate in restorative dentistry at Centro de Estudios Odontologicos in Mexico. After working in private practice, she received a certificate and Master of Science in Periodontology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Adams School of Dentistry followed by a fellowship in Advanced Implant Dentistry at the same university. Dr. Martinez is an associate professor and division director of Clinical Implantology at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine in Greenville, NC, and clinical adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill department of Periodontology. She is Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Fellow of the International Team for Implantology. In addition, she is an active member and part of the steering committee of the North America section of the Women Implantology Network (WIN). Dr. Martinez co-directs the International Team for Implantology Study Club in Greenville, NC, and lectures nationally and internationally on dental implants, digital technology, esthetics, and periodontal plastic surgery.
