Born and raised in Gadsden, AL. Finished college at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, then UAB School of Dentistry, graduating in 1982. Moved back to Gadsden to open his dental practice on South 3rd Street. Raised four daughters in Gadsden including Dr. Mary Lynn Shadix and Dr. Caroline Spruiell.
