Dr. David Midkiff hails from Hobbs, New Mexico. He attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and then West Texas State in Canyon, Texas. He graduated from dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry in 1969. After graduating Dr. Midkiff set up his private practice in Tahoka, Texas. He practiced solely in Tahoka for 25 years before coming to Lubbock and merging with Dr. Charlie Hall — at first part-time in Tahoka, part-time in Lubbock — and now we’re pleased to have him full time in Lubbock! Besides providing care and comfort to his patients, Dr. Midkiff enjoys the intrigue and creativity that comes with meeting each patient’s needs. Dr. Midkiff was the first doctor in Lubbock to offer oral DNA testing and worked closely with Drs. Wischmeyer and Bale, two well-known cardiologists, to help bridge the gap between patients’ dental and medical health. Dr. Midkiff was also the first dentist in Lubbock to pioneer the TAP (Thornton Adjustable Positioner) appliance and has a strong focus on dental health as it involves airway and breathing. Dr. Midkiff continues to be an innovator in his field. He has completed numerous hours of continuing education and two Bale-Doneen preceptor trainings. His expertise and patient care are invaluable to West Texas Dental Associates. Dr. Midkiff currently serves as treasurer for Teeth Savers International which is a Christian Humanitarian Organization based here in Lubbock, Texas, but serving the world at large. The goal of TSI is to train teams all over the world to do dental exams and minor dental treatment. Has been to Guatemala and Sierra Leone to train teams. For 25 years Dr. Midkiff has been a contributor to Covenant’s low-income denture, a program which has treated over 1,500 patients.
