Dr. Small is a native of Mobile. He attended Baker High School where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Sarah. Dr. Small attended the University of South Alabama where he earned a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Science. Dr. Small moved to Birmingham to study epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health. While working on his Masters degree, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry. He attended dental school at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. In 2007, he received his doctorate in dentistry and his masters in public health. He then completed an advanced education in general dentistry residency through the Birmingham Veterans Administration Medical Center.
