Dr. Padma Raman graduated with honours from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2007. While at Penn, she received several awards including the Professor Modern Amsterdam award for excellence in treatment planning and patient care. Her personal highlight was when she got to meet Dr. Amsterdam after her presentation and received his vote. She was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. One of her greatest privileges as a primary care dentist is being able to care for patients at every stage of life. Her interest in airway health began with her own child’s struggles. Navigating that journey opened her eyes to the profound connection between jaw development, breathing, sleep, and overall health. She realised that many of the sleep and airway issues she was treating in adults could have been prevented—or greatly minimised—had they been identified earlier in life. This insight led her to pursue advanced training in pediatric airway development, sleep dental medicine, and orthodontics. She has received the ‘Qualified dentist’ designation from the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and is working towards becoming a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. She feels a personal responsibility to ensure that no parent has to struggle as much as she did to get the right help. Dr. Raman views early airway management and dentofacial orthopedics as one of the greatest gifts dentistry can offer, helping prevent downstream health problems that patients may never even know they avoided. Today, she begins evaluating airway health as early as age three. Outside the office, Dr. Raman enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, 'farm-to-table’ cooking, hiking, and birdwatching.
