Dr. Lee H. Akin is establishing himself as one of the most respected Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in upstate New York. Dr. Akin specializes in advanced oral and maxillofacial surgery and his knowledge of the latest surgical techniques and skilled application of the most state of the art procedures sets him apart. Dr. Akin takes maxillofacial emergency room call at two local hospitals in St. Lawrence County and is passionate in providing his patients with the highest quality care. Originally from Northern CA, Dr. Akin earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Brigham Young University in 2000. He then received his DDS at the University of California San Francisco from 2002-2006 where he served as president of the American Dental Education Association. He received the award for being the top clinician of his class. Upon completion of his doctor of dental surgery degree at UCSF, Dr. Akin was accepted into Loma Linda University’s prestigious program in oral & maxillofacial surgery. During his 4-year residency Dr. Akin was trained in multiple surgical and medical disciplines including: internal medicine, anesthesiology, pathology, general surgery, vascular surgery, Otolaryngology, surgical intensive care, microsurgery, head and neck trauma, maxillofacial infections, benign & malignant oncology, craniofacial surgery, plastic & reconstructive surgery, temporomandibular joint arthroscopic/laser surgery, distraction osteogenesis, orthognathic surgery, dentoalveolar & implant surgery, and facial cosmetic surgery. During his final year at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Dr. Akin served as chief resident in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery. In addition to his experience and credentials in his field, Dr. Akin speaks fluent Spanish. Dr. Akin leads an active lifestyle of running, swimming, surfing and just about any other sport. His wife and three/four children have made their home in Potsdam.
