Dr. Elwell is the daughter of a Medical Doctor and a Doctor of Oriental Medicine. She hails from Albuquerque, NM and earned her undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and minor degrees in Chemistry, Molecular Biology, and Spanish in 2000. Dr. Elwell was an integral member of academic research while attending NMSU. She successfully earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of California-San Francisco in 2004. While completing this rigorous training, Dr. Elwell promoted research and educational advancements in dentistry as the four-year elected representative of the American Dental Education Association. Dr. Elwell subsequently commissioned as an Officer in the United States Air Force. She proudly served on active duty in Anchorage, Alaska, as a Captain and General Dentist, where she was a core member of a team providing care to over 7,000 servicemembers. During this assignment, Dr. Elwell participated in the Artic Care Humanitarian Mission, providing essential dental care to residents residing in remote areas of Northern Alaska. Dr. Elwell has since worked in private practice and community healthcare settings in Oregon, New Mexico, and New Jersey. Dr. Elwell is a life-long student of General Dentistry. In 2012, she was awarded Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry following the successful completion of hundreds of hours of post-doctoral education. After receiving this designation, Dr. Elwell re-entered professional training and graduated from an intensive hospital-based General Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 2014. This advanced training qualified Dr. Elwell to treat complex cases on medically compromised patients using innovative clinical techniques. In 2017, Dr. Elwell earned the high designation of Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, and in 2023, she became Board Certified by the American Board of General Dentistry, becoming one of the 1% of general dentists in the United States to receive this honor. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Elwell enjoys time with family and friends, reading, music, and crafts. She is married to Richie Elwell of Bridgeton, NJ, and they reside in Cumberland County.
