Dr. Maria Tibbs began her career in healthcare shortly after high school, when she joined the Army as an enlisted nurse. While serving in the Army, she tended to the wounded in a field hospital and developed her passion for patient care. After receiving an honorable discharge in 2010, she returned to her native state of Maryland and completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Notre Dame University of Maryland, graduating with honors. Her desire to continue helping people led her to pursue a career in dentistry, and earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Tibbs continued her education for three more years at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, to become a periodontist. She completed a thesis on cell attachment and implant micro-geometry, and earned a Masters of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. Thereafter, she completed a fellowship in Implant and Periodontal Prosthesis, also at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Tibbs’s unique background enables her to relate to and work with a wide variety of people. She has a personal and compassionate approach to dentistry, and her extensive training helps with various types of complex treatment planning. She is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontics, and member of the International Team for Implantology, American Academy of Women Dentists, and the American Dental Association. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her husband, Ben.
