Dr. Deana Cook is excited to return to her hometown of Wilmington to join Cook Periodontics & Dental Implants and become an active member in the community. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate education in Art History. After studying abroad in Italy she began to appreciate the wonderful mix of art and science dentistry provided. She then began her dental education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with honors. In dental school, Dr. Cook was the recipient of the Grover C. Hunter award for excellence in clinical periodontology. Wanting to broaden her educational experience and to learn the Texas Two-Step, Dr. Cook decided to head out to Texas for her residency training in Periodontics. Dr. Cook received her Certificate in Periodontics and her Master’s degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She was awarded First Place in Oral Research Presentation when presenting her clinical research at UTHSCSA Dental Science Symposium and was a finalist for the Dr. & Mrs Gerald M. Kramer Award for Excellence. In 2015 she became the director of the Port City Study Club and is currently the director of a new Spear Study Club. When she isn’t at the office, Dr. Cook is a mom with two daughters, Emery and Sutton. In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors, running with friends, biking, swimming and relaxing at the beach.
