Dr Joel Manchego

Hello and welcome! I’m originally from Lima, Peru—home of the ancient Incas, Pisco Sour, and the breathtaking Machu Picchu. From a young age, I was fascinated by North America and often told my parents that I would live in the United States one day. That dream became a reality at the age of 13 when my parents made the courageous decision to pursue a new life here. We became U.S. citizens and have proudly called North Carolina home since 1995. Through my parents’ example, I learned the values of hard work, education, and perseverance. After graduating from Reynolds High School, I attended NC State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Following a few years in the corporate world, I pursued my true calling and completed my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at Marquette University. My journey toward dentistry began in high school, volunteering at my local church and at community health clinics organized by Dr. Keith Phillips and other dedicated leaders. Those early experiences, paired with interactions with compassionate dental professionals, sparked my interest in the field. I witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact dental care had on individuals—including my own family—which solidified my passion for helping others through dentistry. After graduating from dental school, I returned to North Carolina and gained valuable experience working as an associate in several well-respected practices throughout the Triad. I also had the honor of serving as a clinical instructor at Forsyth Technical Community College. About five years into my career, my wife and I made the exciting decision to open our own practice. In December 2020, Manchego Dental officially opened its doors. I stay current with the ever-evolving field of dentistry by attending continuing education seminars throughout the year. Outside the office, I’m a proud husband and father. My wife, Gabriela, and I are blessed with a lively and loving daughter, Camila.
