Sivakumar is a GDC registered specialist in Prosthodontics, qualified from India in 1999 with a BDS. He then underwent a highly competitive specialist training in Prosthodontics, which he completed in 2002. Sivakumar moved to the UK in 2008, with extensive clinical and postgraduate teaching experience in Prosthodontics and Restorative dentistry. While in active clinical practice, he also taught MSc students at the University of Manchester Dental School, part-time, which he continues to do at the University of Birmingham. In 2016, he achieved his Specialist status in the Prosthodontics mono- specialty with the General Dental Council, UK. In this journey, he researched the status of Dental Implant Education and practice in the UK and completed his higher education teaching program at the University of Birmingham. As an outcome, in 2022, he received his PhD and Fellowship at the Higher Education Academy. In 2023, the Faculty of General Dentistry recognized his contributions to dentistry in the UK and invited him to receive their highest accolade, the Fellowship. He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and served as a reviewer for many journals. Sivakumar maintains his up-to-date knowledge through his memberships in reputable societies such as the British Dental Association, the British Society of Prosthodontics, the Committee for Specialists and Consultants in Restorative Dentistry (RD-UK), the British Society for Occlusal Studies and the Indian Prosthodontic Society. He is one of the few prosthodontists in the UK who provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 level secondary care through MCN lead pathways for NHS. This year (2024) he has started as the Academic Lead for the Implant Dentistry MSc Programme at the College of Medicine and Dentistry, Birmingham (affiliated with Ulster University). He is proud that his experience managing complex fixed and removable prosthodontic rehabilitations, including dental implants and smile design, has brought back smiles to many patients.
