Dr. Nicol grew up in Paducah, Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky for both undergraduate and dental school, graduating from UKCD in 1975. He then served in the Navy for two years, followed by his oral surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, Georgia, which he completed in 1980. He then attended the University of Kentucky Medical School and served a year of general surgery internship. Since then, he has been in the private practice of oral surgery in the Lexington area. He practiced with the Kentucky Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for 37 years, briefly retired, then returned to practice part-time.
