Dr. Michael Messina completed his undergraduate studies at St. Joseph’s College in New York. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1989. Dr. Messina has completed advanced training for the diagnosis and treatment of Occluso-Muscular Dysfunction, as well as Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD) from the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study and the Piper Institute. Dr. Messina serves as Team Dentist for the following organizations: D.C. United – Major League Soccer, Washington Spirit – National Women’s Soccer League, Old Glory DC – Major League Rugby, Loudoun United – United Soccer League, South Lakes High School, Oakton High School. Dr. Messina has served as a Member of the U.S. Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee and is on the U.S. Soccer Federation Medical Advisory Committee. Dr. Messina has been a member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry since 1990, earned his fellowship in 2001, and served on the Board of Directors for the Academy from 2000 to 2003. In 1999, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association. He also was voted top rated dentist in the Washington Checkbook magazine and recently mentioned by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the Top Dentists in the Washington Metro Area, as selected by his peers. His professional associations include: The Academy for Sports Dentistry.
