Dr. Anastasia Vendelis brings a caring and fun atmosphere to her dental practice. A Timonium "townee", she graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory in Towson and received her B.A. in Psychology from Washington College in Chestertown, MD. She belongs to the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. In 1996, she graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree. During dental school, she was involved with various organizations such as the American Student Dental Association, the American Association of Women Dentists, and Operation Smile. Dr. Vendelis, along with her father Dr. Andrew Vendelis, was an original team member of Operation Smile's Dental Mission. She hosted Vietnamese dentists in the United States and traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam, where the team educated both the dentists and the patients in comprehensive dental care. They treated over 500 patients during the three-week mission. Dr. Vendelis is a member of several dental study clubs, Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, and Saint Joseph's Church. She frequently presents at local preschools and elementary schools. " I love teaching children about dentistry and oral health care. They have so many wonderful questions about being a female dentist. It is so much fun and so rewarding! " Dr. Vendelis, her husband, three children, two dogs, and three cats reside in Baltimore County. She is involved in all aspects of her children's education. She especially loves going to the beach with her family during the summer weekends. " I believe healthy smiles start with compassion and comfort. I love coming to work and being given the opportunity to form relationships with my patients. I believe this time is necessary to understand and care for them. I really want to get a handle on their individual needs and their expectations of me. It’s equally important that the people I care for understand their treatment completely. I care about the entire person, not just their dental treatment. I love my patients, they are what makes coming to work so awesome, they are my friends. " Dr. Vendelis feels that her background in Psychology helps her to accomplish these goals. " During college, I had to create behavior modification programs for fellow students. They had to choose a behavior they wanted to change or learn. I created a plan and helped them achieve their goal. This is very similar to what I do today, I develop a treatment plan and help my patient accomplish their goals, whether I am creating a beautiful smile or encouraging someone to floss. " Balancing an accomplished career and active family life has given Dr. Vendelis the ability to relate to her patients with warmth, compassion, and candor.
