Stephen is the third Australian in history to be elected Speaker (Chair) of the FDI World Dental Federation General Assembly , based in Geneva, Switzerland. The FDI represents 135+ countries and over one million practitioners worldwide, shaping WHO and UN policy and driving a coordinated global movement to improve oral health for all. Elected for 2024-27, he also sits on the FDI World Council . Stephen completed his dental degree at the University of Melbourne, joined the practice in 2008 and became a Partner in 2013. He enjoys helping patients achieve dental health via ideal treatment planning with a focus on patient comfort, including Nitrous Oxide sedation as required. He takes complex rehabilitation and cosmetic cases by referral. In 2025, he was among 18 internationally influential figures selected for the inaugural Global Oral Health Leadership Institute Program in Boston , run by Harvard University, King’s College London, and the International College of Dentists. A former Federal and Victorian President of the Australian Dental Association, Stephen represented the profession at the 2023 Senate Inquiry into Dental Services in Australia . His professional leadership has included roles on the Australian Digital Health Agency Secure Messaging Committee, University of Melbourne DDS Curriculum Review Panel, Aus. Dental Council Exam Writing Team and the FDI 2021–23 World Congress Committee, leading the Australian delegation to Geneva (2022) and hosting the World Dental Congress in Sydney (2023) . A seasoned board director and health sector leader, Stephen is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (Order of Merit) and the HWA Health Sector Leadership Program, with over 15 years of non-executive directorship experience. He currently sits on the Board of Victorian Medical Insurance Agency Ltd. His contributions have been recognised via the awarding of multiple international fellowships — including the International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and Academy of Dentistry International — as well as Honorary Membership of the New Zealand Dental Association and appointment as a Patron of the Drug Advisory Council of Australia. In 2025 he received the ADA Victoria Distinguished Service Award for contributions to the field & profession, & early in his career he received the inaugural Australian Outstanding Young Dentist Award. Stephen’s clinical career spans public & private sectors, rural & Indigenous health, and volunteer aid — including international work in Nepal, remote aboriginal communities & low socioeconomic areas of Australia. Prior to Camberwell he held positions at Cobram District Hospital and Goulburn Valley Base Hospital in Shepparton. He lives locally with his daughter & wife Susanna, a Mobile Vet. Outside of practice Stephen is a freelance photographer and enjoys adventuring outdoors.
