Dr. Blake was born and raised in Tillsonburg, Ontario. After high school, she moved to London and attended Western University where she completed her Undergraduate Degree with a Bachelor of Medical Science specializing in Biochemistry, with Honours. She then completed her Masters of Science in Physiology and Pharmacology. She then attended the University of Toronto for dental school. While in dental school, she was very involved in the research aspect, working as a summer student researching oral cancer malignancy markers. She was part of the Summer Emergency Program as a third and fourth year student helping patients while school was out for the summer. After she graduated in 2019 she began her dental career working in Hamilton. She has recently joined Clarence Street Dental Group and continues to practise in Hamilton. While in school, Dr. Blake won the Eleanor and Gerald Copeland Grant in Dental Research for the work she did as a summer student. She placed 3rd in the Faculty of Dentistry Summer Research Day and received a stipend to attend the Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, Tennessee. She says, “It was such a cool experience to be able to present and discuss dental student research around North America.” Dr. Blake loves interacting with her patients and leaving them with a positive dental experience. She didn’t realize before she started her career of the degree of dental anxiety in patients. To have a patient tell her they had a painless visit is the biggest compliment for her. She prides herself in being able to connect and sympathize with her patients in order to deliver the best and most appropriate care. Dr. Blake has always wanted to be a dentist. She thoroughly enjoyed her own dental appointments with both her family dentist and her orthodontist, who gave her a great patient experience and sparked her pride in her own oral health from a young age. She has always wanted to share her enthusiasm but this time as a health care provider. She feels that this is the perfect career for her as it combines her love of science and the ability to work with her hands while interacting with people every day. Dr. Blake lives with her husband in Hamilton, where they enjoy all things outdoors, including hiking the escarpment close to their house, boating in the summer, and skiing in the winter.
