McGrath Dental & Implant Clinic

I am originally from Shropshire where I worked as a keen dental nurse for 7 years before progressing on to Dental Therapy at Liverpool Dental School. Since graduating I have spent time evolving my skills so I can offer the best care for my patients. I have attended advanced courses on; Cosmetic fillings, Whitening, Composite Edge Bonding, Mini Smile Makeovers along with courses focused on treating very anxious patients, these being; Dental Hypnotherapy and Sedation. When I am not treating teeth, I love to travel and have a keen interest in yoga. So much so that I have recently completed my yoga teacher training.

Before studying to become a Dental Therapist I was a dental nurse in an NHS practice for 5 years. I qualified in 2003 at University of Manchester Turner Dental School where I studied for three years to gain my bachelor of science degree. From then onwards I have worked in both private and NHS dental practices. I have furthered my skills gaining extra qualifications in; Tooth Whitening, Facial Aesthetics, Bio Clear Restorations, Cosmetic fillings, Composite Edge Bonding and Periodontal Master Class. I enjoy going to the gym and running, when I am not spending quality time with my family.

In 1994 I moved from Omagh in Northern Ireland to Liverpool to study dentistry. After a rigorous five year course I graduated and started my career working in general dentistry. I then went on to become a partner in an NHS practice before moving on to more advanced aesthetic dentistry such as veneers, crowns, smile makeovers and gum lifts. Dentists never stop studying, and during my further training I met some peers who introduced me to dental implants. I was immediately struck by the quality of the results achieved and the truly transformative effect it had on the lives of patients. I knew I had found the area I wanted to specialise in. I travelled the world learning from the very best in implant dentistry, first training in Manchester before doing courses in New York, Florida and Virginia and then ended my studies back across the pond in Europe. I absorbed everything I could from leading dentists such as Dennis Tarnow, Maurice Salama, Michael Pikos and Tidu Mankoo, it really was an honour to have trained with them. Once I was confident in my ability and expertise, I opened my own referral practice to focus solely on implant dentistry. I have had the honour to become one of the select few awarded the highly acclaimed Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. I’ve gone on to perform over 4000 implants on more than 3000 patients and work collaboratively with dentists across the UK offering support, advice, training and referral services for single implants to CT guided surgery, treating terminal dentition's with immediate fixed restorations.

Originally from Liverpool, I started studying Dentistry at Liverpool University in 1999. After graduating I worked at a busy Liverpool NHS practice, before staring work on the Wirral in 2007. For 10 years I worked in a busy mixed practice, treating lots of families and some patients who were a little more nervous about dental treatment. I was involved in training newly qualified dentists for 5 years, which I found very rewarding but have now decided to concentrate on dental implants, orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. I also have an interest in non-surgical facial aesthetics and skincare. I trained in implant placement in 2009 with Cermal Ucer and have gone on to place more and more implants over the years, with cases becoming increasingly complex and accepting referrals from practices across the North West. I live my partner Chris and our daughter Lara, who is becoming increasingly cheeky! In my spare time I enjoy scuba diving, going for long walks with my Alaskan Malamute and supporting LFC, which can be very stressful!

In 2011 I gained my BSc Dentistry qualification at Manchester University, since then I have developed a specialist interest in Endodontics with additional interests in Orthodontics and Cosmetic Restorative Dentistry. Since graduation, I have gained experience and developed my knowledge at multiple practices throughout the North West including Chester, Crewe, Lymm and the Wirral. I have successfully gained a PG certificate in Endodontics at the University of Chester; it is imperative for me to ensure my clinical skills and knowledge are current, enabling me to continue using modern techniques and complete more complex cases. I accept referrals for re-treatment cases if the initial root canal has failed or if a patient has moderately complex tooth anatomy. I am a fully qualified Invisalign provider and highly experienced in many forms of short-term orthodontic treatments. I have also trained to provide Inman Aligners, Clearsmile braces, C-Fast, Powerprox and many other short-term teeth straightening techniques and systems. I have previously volunteered in Cambodia, working in mobile community dental clinics for the One-2-One World Organisation and providing general dentistry care to the residents of deprived villages. I enjoy all kinds of sport, particularly Rugby League and I am a keen Wigan Warriors fan, attending as many games as possible. Walking and exploring with my family is another favourite, particularly in the Lake District. My foreign travels include a deep love for Italy where I once taught English, so I like to try and visit every year to keep my Italian fluent.

I grew up on the Wirral, before moving to Liverpool to study dentistry in 2008. Since graduating in 2013 I have worked at practices in North Wales, Australia, Liverpool and Manchester, prior to coming back to work in Hoylake. My main area of interest is minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry - that is essentially improving the appearance of a smile whilst doing the minimum amount/zero damage to the natural teeth. I have been an Invisalign provider since 2018, and have done further post graduate training in this area. I have completed many hundreds of composite bonding/veneer cases, and now teach composite bonding at the University of Liverpool to fellow dentists. Outside of work I have a young family and a big dog, and they take up most of my spare time at present! I am a keen golfer and play when I can and also love to travel, my wife and I try to brave as many trips as we can with toddlers/babies.
